A new study finds that 60 percent of British consumers now buy their groceries online

According to a new survey from Spryker, 60 percent of UK consumers now order at least some of their groceries online, and 16 percent do most of their food shopping online. Those between the ages of 35 and 44 account for more than a third of all online grocery purchases. People over the age of 55, on the other hand, are more likely to do all of their shopping online.

In addition, a poll of 2,500 people found that eighty percent of those polled said they would do more online shopping if the experience was better. Although 28 percent of those polled said they plan to do most of their grocery shopping online in the next two years, this is still a small percentage.

When it came to picking up their purchases, 23% preferred home delivery, while only 7% preferred in-store pick-up as a delivery option

"Customers are increasingly looking for the best deals – both online and in-store — with the cost-of-living crisis shrinking consumer budgets," said Boris Lokschin, co-founder and CEO of Spryker.

77% of respondents recognised Uber Eats as a brand, putting it on par with Just Eat in terms of recognition. Third place went to Deliveroo, which received 74% of the vote.

Despite this, only 63% of UK consumers think of Amazon as a place to shop for groceries online. More established brands like Gorillas and Getir were recognised by 17% and 21%, respectively, while the likes of Zapp, GoPuff, Jiffy and Weezy fell somewhere between 5% and 15%.
